Dharbers_Acid Rain

The phenomenon titled as acid rain is not only an alarming occurrence but also hostile the physical world around us. Acid rain being worrisome levels of nitric and sulfuric acids present in form of perspiration. Painful to the surroundings around us it comes in several forms and is not only bound by the limitations of rain, the two categories of which being wet and dry disposition.  These gruesome yet common Acid rains are caused specific gasses react with oxygen as well as several other chemicals resulting in acidic compounds, dispersing by miles the wind spreads it not only through state borders but can cross national borders also.

Wet disposition referring to snow, fog, mist and indeed of course rain with high acidic levels. However these harmful chemicals don’t only rely on wet climate they can hail down to us in lands rather dry as they arrive to us in forms dust and smoke falling down upon us, sticking onto our homes and wild life: dry disposition.  Around half of all acidity in the atmosphere drops back to us here on the surface.

But what does cause this acidic rain, whose fault is it, who is to be blamed? Types of gasses which cause acid rain do happen naturally from volcanoes erupting or rotting plants, however the cast majority is caused by us: Humans. We are the vast reason of why acid rain has become the atrocious level it is today.  The site epa.gov claims that two thirds of Sulfur dioxide and one fourth of Nitrogen dioxide arise from burning fossil fuels in order to gain electricity.  With acid rain mixing into our oceans killing fish it disrupts the natural cycle of predatory feasting.

There is reason to be worried, previously explained what sparks it what was not begun to be informed about in this scripture is its affects and why we should really worry about this. Affecting soil, forests, buildings and our personal health, it damages that which we hold dear and it still has not become as much as a social issue as it needs to be.

Conserveenergy future suggests forests especially in eastern Europe are heavily influenced by acid rains causing insects to penetrate it further by damaging its  leaves, causes dilemmas for its bark and can influence its growth. With the acidic compounds dripping into the soil in forests or even fields they manage to bring fatal consequences to microorganisms vital  in keeping it fertile, with doing this and leading to nutrient deficiency within soil it can label it infertile.

Corroding minerals within structures we can see today there is several visible differences that acid rain causes to buildings as seen in IMG 1.
IMG 1: Two pictures take off a stature in from 1944 and one from\
recent years showing effects of acid rain.
Marble and limestone are effected quite powerfully, slowly ruining some works of previous times what has become of today’s actions are begging to deface statues of the past. Losing its worth previously awed upon structures can face horrid consequences if indeed we do not hinder our use of burning fossil fuels only to release it upon our own environment.

The oceans debatably suffer the worst punishment due to our fossil fuel consumption for as the water welcome the acidic compounds that begin to blend into other waters it has begun becoming deathly to fish, clay fish, clams as well as other aquatic animals according to national geographic. Harmful to animal types within water it causes a ripple effect to its predators as the cycle of life continues. Lowering overall pH levels in the water it moves lower the minimum necessity of pH for certain life allowing it not to maintain alive in such setting. These effects on water in their current state as powerful upon recognition could increase harming even us.

Things to prevent us from succumbing to inevitable destruction of environment are possible but also present at very moment. Actions such as using low sulfur coal which if anything would only lead to delaying what we want not to occur or using scrubbers a sort of liquid filter installed for gases from combustion however doing such things as written of on Elmhurst come at incredible expense. It becomes a hassle to implement and while good for long while standards it is cheaper to look another way.

Acid rain is far more problematic than we give credit at the current situation, if in soon nothing will be done in suppressing our despicable fossil burning acids spread into the environment we hold dear it might strive to a point where it has become too late. In one’s point of view implementing expensive costs for brighter days is no equation that is not speaking for those with actual power of doing so.  Serving only as informative the message of which being only education one can realize in the certain place we are a the moment as well as how dire fixing it really is.
